Stuart ousts Crone in Republican race in Camden

Camden County Republican Chairman Thomas Crone lost his bid for re-election to a second term to former Haddon Heights Board of Education President Kimberley Stuart.

Stuart won 92-61, a margin of 60% to 40%.

Brandon Gilkes, Winslow Town Councillor, was elected Vice-Chairman, along with Stephanie Jones Freitag, Waterford Town Councillor, as Secretary and John Downham of Haddon Heights as Treasurer.

Stuart was previously deputy general counsel to two New Jersey governors, Christine Todd Whitman and Donald DiFrancesco, and served four terms on the school board. He also previously served as city attorney.

Crone is the fourth Republican district chairman to lose office this year, following Jacci Vigilante in Gloucester, Tim Howes in Somerset and Glenn Mortimer in Union.

In Bergen County, former Hasbrouck Heights Mayor Jack DeLorenzo was elected Republican county chairman without opposition. Jack Zisa, who decided to retire after six years in office, had endorsed DeLorenzo as his successor.

Burlington County Republican Chairman Sean Earlen was re-elected unopposed.

Crone was elected in 2022, defeating Nicole Nance 59 votes to 42. He replaced Richard Ambrosino, who did not seek re-election after five years as county chair.

Ambrosino won a special election for county chairman in February 2017, succeeding Thomas Booth Jr. Booth had resigned to become a Supreme Court judge.
