15-year-old charged with murder of grandmother

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) – A 15-year-old was arrested Saturday after being accused of killing his grandmother, according to Valdosta police.

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Saturday, police said, officers responded to a call to an address in the 100 block of Jackson Drive because someone had reported an unresponsive woman at the home.

When officers arrived, they found 52-year-old Nita Ann Luke dead. Emergency services also arrived and confirmed the death to police.

According to VPD, Valdosta police officers and Lowndes County Sheriff's officers found evidence in the area that led them to believe Luke's 15-year-old grandson may have been involved in her death. The grandson was also seen pacing outside Luke's home, police said.

He was arrested by Valdosta police officers and taken to the police station, where police say he is charged with first-degree murder, premeditated murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a knife during the crime.

According to police, he is currently being held in a regional juvenile detention center.

Police said additional charges may be filed.
