These 10 Massachusetts towns sound like they don't exist in MA

Massachusetts definitely has some of the most unique place names of any state. Some place names are so unique that many residents don't know how to pronounce them. Many places in the Bay State begin with the four cardinal directions: north, east, west, and south. There are actually 19 places in the entire Bay State that end in “ham.” But for all of the crazy, unique, eccentric, and bizarre place names in Massachusetts, there are even some that just don't sound like they should be places that should even exist in the Bay State!

Like a word association game, when you read the name of a city or place, certain things come to mind. You may even be able to imagine what that city would look like if you lived there or were just passing through.

Because the state of Massachusetts has such a rich history, it's often easy to see how a city in the Bay State might have originally gotten its name. Perhaps it was named after a historical figure or event that gave rise to its name. That's true for some of these cities. But even so, when you see the city name, you might think of something else that probably has nothing to do with the state of Massachusetts.

That's exactly what happens when you see these towns that don't necessarily sound like they belong in Massachusetts. You'd think they were definitely in other places in the U.S. To some, they might even sound like something from another country. In any case, here are 10 towns in the Bay State that don't sound like they're in Massachusetts at all…
