Idaho's 2023 crime report released; some counties show upward trends | Spokane News

MERIDIAN, Idaho – The Idaho State Police has released crime rates for 2023 for all Idaho counties, with some showing an upward trend.

Crime rates are part of the national crime statistics collected and recorded by local authorities to show changes from the previous year.

Kootenai County

In 2023, Kootenai County experienced a 4.0% increase in crime compared to 2022. In 2023, there were over 11,000 total crimes in the county, with the largest increase in crimes against society. Compared to all other counties, the county ranked 5th in crime.

Bonner County

Bonner County also saw a slight increase in crime of 3.4% from 2022 to 2023. In 2022, Bonner County saw a significant decrease of -11%, which is now increasing again. It ranked 15th among all other counties in terms of crime

Benewah County

Benewah County has seen its crime rate drop significantly for the second time this year. It ranked 25th among all other counties in northern Idaho, recording only 415 crimes.

Latah County

Latah County saw a larger increase in crime in 2023, increasing by nearly 9% from 2022 to 2023. The county performed worse than other northern Idaho counties in crime, ranking 23rd in the state with 1,615 crimes.

Shoshone County

Shoshone County saw the largest increase in crime among northern Idaho counties, with an increase of nearly 19%. The total number of reported incidents in the county was just over 1,100. Based on the crime rate per 1,000 residents, it ranked third in crime statistics, reaching 77.91.
