$41 million investment in Montana's Headwaters Tech Hub | Politics

BIG SANDY, Montana – U.S. Senator Jon Tester announced Tuesday that a $41 million investment has been secured for the Headwaters Tech Hub.

This Phase 2 grant will support the Headwaters Tech Hub's efforts to expand the state's strength in sensor technologies to address autonomous systems, national defense, precision agriculture and critical resource management, according to the press release from Tester's office on Tuesday morning, July 2.

For context: Congress passed the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act in 2022, which invested in high-tech manufacturing across the country.

BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana was selected from nearly 200 applicants for a preliminary round spot…

Tester helped bring a Regional Tech Hub to Montana after he made a provision in his CHIPS and Science Act that promises to include rural states. Then in February, Tester called on the Biden administration to award that Phase 2 funding to the Headwaters Tech Hub.

“Montana is a great state capable of great things, and we have proven that we have what it takes to lead the nation in technological innovations that will ensure America can continue to outperform countries like China,” said Tester. “That's exactly why I championed this major $41 million investment for the Headwaters Tech Hub and have been a leading voice in the Senate advocating for the untapped potential of rural America. Bringing good-paying jobs back to the U.S., securing our domestic supply chains, and developing the next generation of technology starts with investments here in the Treasure State, and I will continue to work with the Headwaters team to ensure they have the resources they need to succeed.”
