News from the SF Giants: Raymond Burgos and Trenton Brooks are excluded from the waiver list

The San Francisco Giants have given a cup of coffee to some major league debutants this year, and there's a chance some of those players will get another cup of coffee with the team. While players like Mitch White, Daulton Jefferies and Nick Avila found new homes after being assigned to a new team, the Giants announced Monday that left-handed pitcher Raymond Burgos and first baseman Trenton Brooks have both passed the waivers list and gone straight to AAA Sacramento.

Burgos seems to have a good chance of working his way back onto the roster. The Giants don't have enough left-handed relief pitchers — they have two lefties in the major league bullpen (Taylor Rogers and Erik Miller) and their two most exciting left-handed relief pitchers in AAA (Reggie Crawford and Juan Sánchez) are both injured right now. Burgos impressed with the River Cats and in his only major league appearance before being cut from the roster to make room for Hayden Birdsong on the 40-man roster.

Brooks has a tougher job. Not only is left-hander LaMonte Wade Jr. (the player Brooks filled in for) healthy again, but David Villar has clearly overtaken Brooks in the rankings, and Blake Sabol will likely do the same soon. He also struggled a bit in his MLB opportunity. Still, he's a great AAA replacement.

When do the Giants play today?

The Giants and Braves start a series today at 4:20 p.m. PT.
