Family in Utah mourns loss of 14-year-old son after construction accident

SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah family is mourning the death of their son following a fall Friday. The 14-year-old was working with his stepfather at a construction site when he fell through a skylight.

Keenan Conte's family says he loved music and being with his family and cousins. They say they will miss his big personality every day.

“We have four kids and they are all best friends,” says Bryant Coburn, Keenan’s stepfather.

When Bryant Coburn and Keenan's mother, Rachelle Coburn, realized their son would not survive his injuries, they faced the difficult decision of whether to donate his organs.

“Whenever he could help someone, he helped them,” she said, which was ultimately the reason for the quick decision to donate organs. “To be able to save organs, we spent hours or minutes with him, but that's what Keenan would have wanted.”

It is said that Keenan was a homebody who loved music.

She says she always knew her son was special, but now she knows others thought so too.

“When he died, I realized that it wasn't just me being biased as his mother,” she said. “Everyone who reached out said how kind and caring he was, like he was just the best friend.”

A *GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family.
