The ShowRoom in Asbury Park presents a summer music film series

(ASBURY PARK, NJ) — This July The ShowRoom invites you to experience a special series of music-related films on the last three Thursdays of the month. These screenings begin at 7:30 p.m. on July 11, 18 and 25 and celebrate some of the greatest musical performances ever captured on film. Asbury Park, known for its rich rock and roll heritage, provides the perfect backdrop for these cinematic events, with two films celebrating their 40th anniversaries.

Thursday, July 11 – Jonathan Demme’s “Stop Making Sense” – The series kicks off with Jonathan Demme's Stop Making Sense, a film that captures the Talking Heads during their 1983 tour. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, this groundbreaking film is known for its dynamic direction and high-energy performances, and includes hits such as “Psycho Killer” and “Once in a Lifetime.”

Thursday, July 18 – Martin Scorsese’s “The Last Waltz” On July 18th they will present Martin Scorsese's “The Last Waltz.” This film documents the band's farewell concert on Thanksgiving Day 1976 and includes unforgettable guest appearances by Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. It is a heartfelt tribute to an era of music that shaped an entire generation.

Thursday, July 25 – Albert Magnoli’s “Purple Rain” – The series concludes on July 25 with Albert Magnoli's “Purple Rain.” This 1984 film, starring Prince and celebrating his 40th birthday, combines electrifying live performances with a gripping story of ambition and love. The soundtrack, with hits like “When Doves Cry” and “Purple Rain,” shows Prince at his best.

Asbury Park's vibrant rock'n'roll culture makes it the ideal setting for this film series. Come to the ShowRoom to enjoy these musical films on the big screen. Tickets are available for purchase online for $15 per film. All screenings begin at 7:30pm. Don't miss your chance to be part of this music and film festival. We celebrate 30 years of “Priscilla – Queen of the Desert” with a special charity performance in the ShowRoom


(ASBURY PARK, NJ) – The ShowRoom is pleased to announce a special 30th anniversary benefit screening of the groundbreaking film Priscilla: Queen of the Desert on Saturday, July 27, 2024. Proceeds from this celebratory event will benefit The Center in Asbury Park, an organization dedicated to the needs of the LGBTQ+ community and people living with HIV/AIDS. Showtimes begin at 7:30 p.m.
