Report: Blake Anderson no longer Utah State football coach

LOGAN – Blake Anderson’s tenure as Utah State football coach is reportedly over.

According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, Anderson is on “administrative leave” from the program and is not expected to return.

“Utah State has informed the football team that coach Blake Anderson is on leave and is unlikely to return,” Thamel said on social media platform X. “Defensive coordinator Nate Dreiling has been named interim coach.”

Details of Anderson's leave were not immediately available. He has spoken openly about family tragedy and grief in recent years and was also involved in a lawsuit filed against him by a former player in 2022.

Anderson took over the Aggies job in 2020.

His best season was 2021, when he led the team to an overall record of 11-3 and the Mountain West championship. The team also defeated Oregon State in the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl.

With Anderson's rumored departure, Utah State will likely lose several players through the transfer portal. There has already been a lot of movement at the quarterback position after Cooper Legas and McCae Hillstead left for Tulsa and BYU, respectively.

Anderson recently named Spencer Petras, who transferred from Iowa, as starting quarterback following the conclusion of spring camp.
