Connecticut Attorney General launches investigation into failed Capulet Festival

HARTFORD, CT (CelebrityAccess) — Connecticut State Attorney William Tong announced he has launched an investigation into the troubled Capulet Festival, which received dozens of consumer complaints after the festival was abruptly rescheduled and eventually partially canceled.

“We have received dozens of complaints from frustrated Capulet Fest ticket holders. Fans paid hundreds of dollars and booked camping and overnight accommodations for a three-day outdoor festival. That is not what they got. Capulet Entertainment must explain exactly how things went so wrong and promptly refund every customer they disappointed,” said Attorney General Tong.

The festival was originally announced for June 28-30 at Thompson Motor Speedway and promised camping and multiple music stages with more than 50 bands performing over the three days.

However, one day before the festival was scheduled to open, organizers announced an abrupt change of venue: They were moving to the much smaller Webster Theater in Hartford. After the change of venue, several bands canceled their festival and the event's organizer, Capulet Entertainment, canceled the last day of programming on Sunday in the middle of LiveKill's performance, according to some reports.

Rumors circulated throughout the weekend that the festival had lost its original venue at the Speedway due to payment issues and that similar problems may have been the reason for the shortened final day.

Frustratingly for fans, the festival's ticket policy stated that tickets to the event were non-refundable. Since the cancellation, fans have complained on social media after trying in vain to reclaim their money from Capulet.

A Facebook group called “Victims of Capulet Fest,” which was created in the wake of the failed festival, already has more than 1,200 followers.

This ticket refund policy appears to be a focus of the Attorney General's investigation, and details of refunds are part of the information the Attorney General's Office has requested from the promoter, which also includes details of concert promotion and scheduling, the reasons for the abrupt change of venue and cancellation of the third night, notices to Connecticut consumers regarding the change of venue and cancellation, and an accounting of festival revenues.
