A minute later, the officer informed dispatch that another driver had just crashed into the back of their patrol car.

“The road is now completely closed,” the officer said. “I am now working on closing the road.”

The officer said the vehicle involved in the rear-end collision had its airbags deployed, but the driver appeared unharmed. The officer confirmed to dispatch that they were OK and said the other vehicle likely did not see the patrol car due to sun glare and drove into the vehicle.

Additional officers and fire and rescue crews from Concord were dispatched to the scene. One of the crashes involved a Honda CR-V, another involved a motor home, leaving one person with a head injury, an official at the scene said. Another vehicle was a Subaru.

At around 6:45 a.m., tow trucks were called to the scene of the accident.

Concord police could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
