The Anderson County Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday on Harpers Way. The coroner's office said Sally Brainerd, 74, died of a gunshot wound. An arrest warrant says when officers arrived at the home, Edwin Brainerd Jr., her husband, stood over her and said, “I shot her.” The warrant says Edwin Brainerd Jr. shot Sally Brainard in the back with a 12-gauge shotgun. Edwin Brainerd Jr. is charged with murder.

A 79-year-old man in Anderson County, South Carolina, stood over his wife's body after fatally shooting her in the back with a 12-gauge shotgun, according to an arrest warrant.

The Anderson County Sheriff's Office said the shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. Monday on Harpers Way.

According to the coroner, 74-year-old Sally Brainerd died of a gunshot wound.
