Connecticut Governor announces Matt Brokman as new Chief of Staff

Governor Ned Lamont announced a new key figure for his administration on Tuesday.

Matt Brokman, senior adviser to the governor since January 2023, will assume the role of Lamont's chief of staff, effective immediately.

Brokman, previously chief of staff to House Majority Leader Jason Rojas and former House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz, has also worked in the Democratic Party's office in the Connecticut House of Representatives.

“I think people in this building on both sides of the aisle know him,” Lamont said of Brokman. “They know they can take him at his word, and I think that's going to be incredibly valuable to us as a state over the next two years.”

With the next regular legislative session about six months away, crafting Connecticut's next two-year budget is a priority. Lamont said the next budget cycle could be “complicated” because the state must spend the last of the American Rescue Plan Act funds by the end of 2026.

Brokman replaces Jonathan Dach, who resigned as Lamont's chief of staff after a year and a half in the role, citing a move to New York.

In his speech Tuesday, Lamont praised Badger for his work over the past six years as the 24/7 chief of staff and in various other positions in his administration.

Dach said he will continue to work with the governor in a senior advisory role on policy projects related to energy, higher education and housing.

The next regular legislative period will last from early January to June 2025
