YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Thelma Louise Young, 96, of 1310 Fifth Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio, departed this life Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 8:30 p.m. at her residence, of natural causes. 

She was born September 24, 1927 in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of Robert L. and Bernice E. Davis Davis.

Louise was employed with Packard Electric Division of General Motors for 32 years as an Assembler, before retiring in 1992.

She was a 1945 graduate of South High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and attended Youngstown College.

She was a member of Price Memorial AME Zion Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, member of the Altar Guild, Kitchen Ministry and enjoyed traveling, especially overseas. She also belonged to the String of Pearls Chapter of the Red Hat Society, North East Home Owners Association, Keenager’s of Third Baptist Church, Bonanza Club, numerous card clubs, Senior Independence and the JCC Silver Slippers Local 717.

She married Victor J. Young November 8, 1946, he died December 1968.

She leaves to mourn her niece, Ms. Debra Davis, whom she raised of Annapolis, Maryland; one sister, Mrs. Beryl D. Evans of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one granddaughter, Mrs. Adrienne (Brandon) Settles of Lanham, Maryland; three great-grandchildren, Alexander, Miss Casey and Miss Marcel; one son-in-law, Edward Weatherly of Memphis, Tennessee; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn Davis of Cleveland; one niece, Mrs. Teresa Valmond of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one cousin/sister, Mrs. Madge Lyons of Youngstown and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; one beloved daughter, Ms. Cynthia Young and one brother, Wallace D. Davis.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., with Calling Hours from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Sterling-McCullough Williams Youngstown Chapel. Burial will take place at Tod Homestead Cemetery.

Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Youngstown Funeral Home.
