Governor Brad Little declares July 2 as Idaho Wildland Firefighter Day | Idaho

BOISE – Governor Brad Little has declared July 2, 2024, as Idaho Wildland Firefighter Day. The proclamation recognizes the important role the state’s wildland firefighters play in protecting millions of acres of private, state and federal lands.

Dustin Miller, director of the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL), delivered a heartfelt message recognizing the tireless efforts of Idaho's wildfire fighting community. “Today is a day to recognize the tireless efforts of the men and women who make up our wildfire fighting community,” Miller said, emphasizing the dedication of IDL fire crews who work in dangerous and difficult conditions to protect Idaho's communities and natural resources.

Governor Little's proclamation highlights the dangerous and essential work of Idaho's wildfire fighters. In 2023 alone, Idaho's wildfire fighters fought 286 wildfires on 2,590 acres under IDL protection and successfully contained 92 percent of those fires to less than 10 acres. The proclamation also recognizes the critical role these firefighters play in protecting the state's economy, natural resources and recreational opportunities.

Governor Little encourages all Idaho citizens to recognize and honor the contributions of wildfire fighters on this special day.
