Orlando City faces a winnable duel with Toronto

After a disappointing loss to New York City FC, Orlando City travels to Toronto looking to win against a familiar opponent.

The two teams faced each other in April and Toronto won 2-1 at the Inter&Co Stadium. Coach Oscar Pareja knows what to expect, especially on the defensive.

He sees this as an opportunity for three decisive points.

Facundo Torres' goals boost Orlando City's home win against Chicago

“Toronto has a game mode that we already know. We've played against them at home. We've seen them play against Atlanta,” he said. “They usually play with a defensive five. We know the challenges and opportunities that these things present us and that can affect our approach.”

Orlando City (5-9-6, 21 points) has improved in front of goal in recent weeks, but is struggling defensively. The return of Pedro Gallese and Wilder Cartagena from the Peruvian national team should help, but the Lions still need to focus more on defense.

“In the last few games we started scoring a lot of goals and we started to improve in that area,” said striker Martin Ojeda. “But we have to focus on improving defensively and keeping a clean sheet.”

The good news for the Lions is that Toronto (7-11-3, 24 points) is winless in its last seven games, and this game offers a great chance to find answers against a struggling opponent.

Tahir Reid-Brown (left thigh) is doubtful, while Mikey Halliday (right knee) and Mason Stajduhar (right lower leg) are out. David Brekalo remains unavailable for international duty but will return after Slovenia were eliminated from UEFA Euro 2024 on penalties against Portugal on Monday.
