Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia is battling a tooth abscess

Snitker could not say whether Arcia would be there on Wednesday. “We'll see,” he said.

A week earlier, Arcia had missed two games after being knocked out due to dizziness and did not seem to be feeling well.

A tooth abscess is a great misfortune for Arcia.

“He probably would rather be uncomfortable than have something like that happen to him,” Snitker said Tuesday about Arcia's infected tooth.

The Braves learned about Arcia's tooth on Tuesday. Snitker said Arcia's wife alerted the team.

“I didn't ask if it bothered him (on Monday) or anything,” Snitker said. “It could have been, and then there came a point where they had to do something.”

A dental abscess is a small pus-filled blister that develops due to a bacterial infection. Snitker didn't go into detail in Arcia, but typical symptoms of a dental abscess include a throbbing toothache, sensitivity to hot and cold, and pain or discomfort when chewing or biting. A dental abscess can cause fever or facial swelling.

In over 285 at-bats this season, Arcia has a .211 batting average and a .582 OPS. He has six home runs and 23 RBIs. He has played excellent defense, though.

When the Braves needed Short, he delivered. Entering Tuesday, he started 8 for 59 hits, but had five RBis and 11 walks in 55 at-bats.

Kranitz is out due to family problems

At the start of the third inning on Tuesday, bullpen coach Erick Abreu – not pitching coach Rick Kranitz – visited Reynaldo López on the mound.

Kranitz was absent for family reasons. Abreu took over the mound visits on Tuesday.

Laureano could end up on the injury list

Ramón Laureano has not played since June 26 due to back pain.

On Wednesday, Snitker said Laureano's pain had spread from his back to his oblique area — which is not good. The manager said Laureano could end up on the injured list “at some point” if he doesn't show improvement.

The Braves will take Laureano day by day, just as they did with Austin Riley, who missed two weeks with intercostal inflammation.

Snitker on Harris: “I think he feels great”

Could Michael Harris II (hamstring strain) start running by the end of the week?

Snitker said he had no expectations for Harris.

“I just passed him in the hallway,” Snitker said. “I think he's feeling great, so I have to assume this is going to happen soon.”
