Toronto FC may be disappointed by their latest defeat, which extended a winless streak to seven games, but they will look to shake off their bad luck at home to Orlando City on Wednesday.

Toronto (7-11-3, 24 points) was tied with Atlanta United in the final moments of second-half stoppage time on Saturday. Toronto backup goalkeeper Luka Gavran prepared to make a long clearance without a teammate near him, and Atlanta's Jamal Thiare left the field to get some water.

Thiare then sneaked behind Gavran and stole the ball as he laid it on the ground. Thiare turned and scored in no time for a bizarre 2-1 Atlanta victory, moving Toronto FC to 0-5-2 in their last seven games.

“You make mistakes like that and you have to learn from them,” coach John Herdman said after Toronto's fourth straight loss. “I told Luka we love him. He's been great for us, filling in for Sean (Johnson).”

“It's tough. I'm at a loss for words. It's just heartbreaking, but at the same time you have to react with the midweek game at home against Orlando in mind. We have to keep looking forward.”

Toronto was without its No. 1 goalkeeper Johnson, who was with the U.S. men's national team at the Copa America. With the Americans eliminated, it is unclear whether Johnson will be back in time for Wednesday's game.

When Toronto visited Orlando City (5-9-6, 21 points) in April, it was the Reds who created the late magic. Tyrese Spicer and Prince Owusu scored in the 87th and 90th minutes, respectively, to seal a 2-1 comeback victory.

Orlando has not won a consecutive game this year. After a convincing 4-2 win over Chicago Fire, the Lions lost 2-4 to hosts New York City FC on Friday.

Making his fourth consecutive appearance for Orlando, goalkeeper Mason Stajduhar suffered a fractured right fibula and tibia in the first half. He underwent surgery this weekend and the club plans to place him on the injured list, which will end his season.

“It was a very strong moment and it was hard for us to see Mason's injury,” said coach Oscar Pareja. “I know our emotions were high and that could have been a reason for this poor performance. We don't want to say that because that's not our character, but we were really sad about what happened to Mason.”

Like Toronto, Orlando was without its best goalkeeper, Pedro Gallese of Peru, during the Copa. Peru also bowed out and Gallese is back with the club, as is his teammate and fellow countryman Wilder Cartagena.

Duncan McGuire scored seven goals for Orlando after his goal against NYCFC, making him the team's leading scorer. Federico Bernardeschi scored Toronto's only goal against Atlanta and is the club's leading scorer with eight goals.
