Senator Menendez honors New Jersey athletes on their way to the Paris Olympics

JERSEY CITY, NJ—U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) today congratulated three New Jersey athletes on their remarkable achievements leading up to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Salif Mane and Hezly Rivera have made significant strides in their respective sports to earn a spot on Team USA.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone of Dunellen continues to dominate the women's 400-meter hurdles, setting a new world record of 50.65 seconds at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials. This record is her fifth world record in the event and adds to her already impressive record as a two-time Olympic champion. Meanwhile, Salif Mane, a triple jumper from Fairleigh Dickinson University, achieved a personal best of 17.52 meters to secure his spot at the Olympics. Completing the trio of athletes is 16-year-old gymnast Hezly Rivera of Oradell, who earned her spot on the U.S. women's gymnastics team with her outstanding performance at the trials.

Senator Menendez expressed New Jersey's collective pride, saying, “I speak for all of New Jersey when I say we are immensely proud of the accomplishments of these three spectacular Olympians.” He praised their historic achievements and expressed his anticipation for their performances in Paris, where they will compete to bring Olympic gold back to the United States.

The 2024 Olympic Games begin on July 26. Athletes from all over the world will come together in Paris to compete at the highest sporting level.
