Boscawen's Surprenant takes the lead at the New Hampshire Junior Championship

July 2 – Andrew Surpenant of Boscawen passed Charlie Martin to take the lead in the boys division of the New Hampshire Junior Championship on Tuesday at Mount Washington Resort and Golf Club.

The 18-year-old Suprenant shot 1 under par and 71 strokes in the second round and is three strokes ahead of Martin of Wolfeboro going into today's final round at Mount Washington.

Surpenant, a graduate of Merrimack Valley High School, made birdies on the sixth, 10th, 11th and 18th holes to offset a double bogey on the third hole and a bogey on the 14th hole.

Martin, 15, shot a 75 (3 over par) on Tuesday after shooting a 69 (1 under par) in the first round at Cochecho Country Club in Dover on Monday to move one stroke ahead of Suprenant.

Martin, a student at Brewster Academy, made three birdies but ran into trouble on the back nine, recording consecutive bogeys on holes 14 through 16 and a double bogey on the 18th hole.

Mady Savary of Franklin leads the girls standings by seven strokes after shooting a four-over-par 76 on Tuesday. Savary also led the field after Monday's first round, when she shot a five-over-par 77.

Delaney Nadeau of Lee is in second place after shooting a 5-over 77 on Tuesday. Her sister Teagan is two strokes behind her at 16-over 162 after the first two rounds.

Sam Maurice, an Auburn resident and Trinity High School student, leads the boys field in the Junior Stroke Play Championship, which is determined by Tuesday and Wednesday's Junior Championship results. Maurice shot a 4-under 68 on Tuesday, including three birdies on the first nine holes. William Miele of Salem is in second place after his 3-under 69 and Surprenant rounds out the top three.

Delaney Nadeau leads the girls' stroke play division and Savary is one stroke behind. Naw Whar, an 11-year-old Hampton resident, is in third place after her 11-over 83 on Tuesday.
