Mark it on your calendar. In South Carolina, there's just one month until Tax-Free Weekend. Tax-Free Weekend begins Friday, August 2 and runs through Sunday, August 4. For 72 hours, items such as school supplies, electronics and clothing can be purchased tax-free. This applies to both in-store and online purchases. Last year, South Carolina shoppers purchased over $30 million worth of tax-free items, according to the state Department of Revenue. Eligible items can be purchased online and in-store during Tax-Free Weekend without paying the state's 6% sales tax and any applicable local taxes. Items that are not exempt from sales tax during Tax-Free Weekend include digital cameras, smartphones, jewelry, cosmetics, eyeglasses, wallets, watches and furniture.
