Three firefighters injured fighting the Thompson wildfire in California, Cal Fire said

Near Oroville, California, an evacuation order remains in place for around 13,000 people.

Cal Fire says three firefighters suffered heat-related injuries while battling the Thompson Fire in Butte County, California, as the area remains at risk of human emergencies.

The state secured federal aid on Tuesday to assist in firefighting, Governor Gavin Newsom said.

“We are working proactively to provide additional funding to ensure the availability of vital resources to fight the fire in Butte County,” he said in a statement.

According to the Butte County Sheriff, an evacuation order for about 13,000 people remains in place near Oroville, California.

The fire has burned about 3,002 acres of land since it broke out Tuesday morning, fire officials said. The fire is zero percent under control, Cal Fire said.

Newsom said California has received approval for a Fire Management Assistance Grant, a federal program that can reimburse up to 75 percent of eligible firefighting costs.

About 510 firefighters fought the “already well-established” fire on Tuesday evening, Cal Fire said in a factsheet.

“The fire has jumped the Feather River drainage basin and is spreading toward Olive Highway in the Kelly Ridge area,” the agency said.
