The 20 best campgrounds in Maine

Camping is as much a tradition in Maine as lobster.

Maine is a big state with so much wilderness to choose from. Whether you like hiking, water sports, lakes or oceans, that's why we're called “Vacationland.” Because we have it all. That includes packing it all up and living in nature at a campground. Most Mainers have the fondest memories of their childhood and camping.

What do you look for when camping in Maine?

If you're looking for a down-to-earth nature experience, Maine is the place for you. If you're bringing the kids and want to make sure there are plenty of activities for them, there are plenty of campgrounds with activities for the little ones!

If you have a large camper or RV, some campgrounds in Maine offer water and electricity. Others offer a picnic table, a small grilling area, and a common area where you can use the restrooms and freshen up. It just depends on what you want out of the experience.

For me, it's heaven. When you can get away from the city lights and look up and see a shooting star, that's the best. It's time to just breathe and be thankful that we get to call Maine home. Then you can worry about all the things you have to do and all the hundreds of obligations. But which campground is your favorite place to get away from it all now?
