Can Beryl make it to Texas?

The answer is yes. But there is one important element we are watching. The high pressure system in northern Florida will largely determine the path in the Gulf of Mexico. With the current strength of the high pressure system, it should have no problem pulling Beryl in and steering it north. If the high pressure system weakens even a little, Beryl will miss the turn and move more westward. Whichever path Beryl takes, there is a high risk of rip currents starting Saturday!

The landing is significant for its impact on Houston:

We'll have a better idea of Beryl's path late Wednesday. Right now, I expect the storm to make a direct hit on extreme southern Texas or northeastern Mexico. If that path holds, the heaviest rain will be west of Houston. There's also a chance Beryl will regain hurricane strength as it approaches land.

Independence Day forecast:

It's going to be scorching hot on the 4th! With temperatures around 35 degrees, a heat warning is possible. Luckily, there is no fire ban in Southeast Texas on July 4th for the first time in two years! Be sure to check with your county before setting off fireworks.

10-day forecast:

The closer Beryl is to Southeast Texas, the more rain we'll get. The farther south Beryl moves, the less impact we'll have. Right now, I'm predicting a 60 percent chance of tropical rain on Sunday and Monday, and there's a chance of storms on Saturday and Tuesday as well.
