The iconic Rosewood Hotel Georgia reopens after extensive renovation

Rosewood Hotel Georgia, known as Vancouver's hippest retreat, reopens today after an extensive five-month renovation, showcasing reimagined culinary concepts and luxurious rooms and suites. The reopening also marks the debut of an all-new dining venue, Georgia Bar, which further bolsters the property's extensive culinary program and pays tribute to the iconic and beloved figures who once walked its hallways. Carefully curated to serve as the ultimate gathering place for culturally-minded travelers and local aesthetes, Rosewood Hotel Georgia celebrates Vancouver's history and heritage in a contemporary setting, complemented by a range of unique experiences. The property opened in 1927 as Hotel Georgia and was last renovated in 2011 when it was introduced as Rosewood Hotel Georgia.

Sensory rooms and suites

Rosewood Hotel Georgia commissioned New York-based design firm Lillian Wu Studio to redesign its 156 rooms and suites. Reflecting the epitome of refined comfort and elegance, the accommodations were designed as a sensory experience with details such as leather-covered accessories, plush padded headboards, horn handles with bronze patina holders and hand-blown glass fixtures. With a color palette of tranquil hues contrasted with patterned furnishings and jewel-tone accents, the rooms and suites offer guests an atmosphere of serenity and timeless luxury. Rosewood's “A Sense of Place” reflects® Elegant nods to the property's unique location are woven into the home's philosophy throughout, such as silver leaf painted glass reminiscent of the Pacific Dogwood, British Columbia's provincial flower, and artwork curated by a local gallery.

The Lord Stanley Suite and Rosewood Suite, the crown jewels of the property, were renovated in 2021 and embody the bold spirit of the legendary guests who have visited the hotel throughout its nearly century-long history. The 120 square meter 12th Decorated in gold and regal hues with striking fixtures, the 1st floor Lord Stanley Suite features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living room, dining area for up to six, and a terrace with a private plunge pool, outdoor fireplace, and unobstructed views of Vancouver. Inspired by the verdant Pacific Northwest, the equally luxurious 140-square-metre Rosewood Suite offers two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spacious living area, and a rooftop garden terrace for up to 20 guests. Contemporary with sleek silhouettes and graphic patterns, it can be connected to an additional room to provide three bedrooms, and features a private plunge pool and fireplace with a bird's eye view of Vancouver.

Revival of a legendary lobby and lounge from 1927

Vancouver-based design firm Ste. Marie Studio is responsible for the redesign of the public spaces, including the lobby and adjacent culinary concepts. Reflecting the luxury of the Roaring Twenties, the lobby combines the era's signature exuberance and elegance with the signature sense of locale and warmth that is synonymous with the Rosewood brand. Moody marble and lush green velvet contrast with contemporary flair and colorful fabrics that effortlessly connect the reception area and the 1927 Lounge dining area.

Designed to celebrate the city's rich history, the newly redesigned two-story 1927 Lounge highlights the prestigious stories of Downtown Vancouver while offering fine dining and handcrafted cocktails. A hub of activity and entertainment for visitors and locals alike, 1927 Lounge features live performances by R&B, jazz and soul artists on select nights and special events. The musical soul of the space is further enhanced by the sounds of a custom-built Fazioli Pianoforti Model F183 Art Case Edition made from California walnut, providing the perfect accompaniment to world-class performances enjoyed in both 1927 and the new adjacent Georgia Bar.

Introducing: The Georgia Bar

Embodying the spirit of the gilded Art Deco era, the Georgia Bar is the hotel's new mixology-focused concept. Its focal point is a spectacular U-shaped bar topped with Arabescatto Orobico marble, set against a backdrop of mahogany-panelled walls and checkerboard marble floors. Guests are enveloped by bespoke furniture crafted by European artisans, featuring plush crushed velvet and rich leather upholstery, ornate crystal fixtures, unique archival objects and an eclectic art collection that lend both elegance and character to the ambience.

The Georgia Bar's cocktail program transports guests into a storied world that celebrates the celebrities and stories central to the hotel's history. The mixology program is complex in artistry and technique and puts the guest experience first, with distinct flavor profiles all based on high-quality and often carefully selected ingredients. The signature cocktail menu takes guests on a journey through the heart and history of Rosewood Hotel Georgia, offering odes to the property's heritage, including the selection of Patriciaan alcoholic cocktail that takes its name from the “Patricia Room”, a private room for His Royal Highness Edward, Prince of Wales, dating from the opening of the original hotel; and The Herricka wine-based cocktail with elements of Earl Grey tea and Verjus Blanc, paying tribute to Fred Herrick, who served as the estate's shoeshine boy for 54 years.

Georgia Bar's culinary program has been carefully crafted to introduce guests to Greater Vancouver and guide them through the flavors of the small but culturally diverse communities that make up this unique enclave. On the Georgia Bar menu, unlike anywhere else in Vancouver, Canadian “Caviar bumps”, offers guests a taste of sustainably sourced and aromatic caviar paired with fine wine and spirits. Other bar snacks on the menu include Chicken Fried Maitake, Paani Poori and Brioche Vada Pav Sliders.

Reflection Terrace

Following the property's initial reopening, Reflections Terrace will reopen as a year-round dining venue in the second half of 2024, marking the rebirth of a beloved eatery. When it opens, Reflections will feature a new fully retractable roof and design elements inspired by Vancouver's surrounding landscapes, grounded in a biophilic design that brings nature even more indoors.

Prophecy by At Home Hospitality

Located in a storied space beneath the hotel, the recently opened Prophecy is a brand new concept that seamlessly blends classic elegance with modern charm, paying tribute to the legacy of the Rosewood Hotel Georgia and its role in Vancouver's elegant nightlife scene, past and future. At the helm of the cocktail program is an award-winning team who have collaboratively created a cocktail menu inspired by writers, poets, musicians and artists. Prophecy's menu offers a range of elevated, shareable options to suit a variety of tastes, from familiar favorites to delicious seafood dishes. Notable dishes include the decadent A5 Wagyu Katsu Sando. The food and beverage experience is complemented by cutting-edge digital works from Apollo, a pioneer in advanced technology.

Dynamic art collection

Building on Rosewood Hotel Georgia's existing collection, the property's artwork has been seamlessly integrated throughout the hotel to provide guests with a unique cultural immersion. The collection showcases a diverse selection of modern artists – from blue chip and mid-career artists to emerging contemporary talent – in a variety of media, including paintings, prints, photographs and sculpture. Working exclusively with local and national artists, the hotel drew on the pre-existing works of Canadian modern masters and looked to artists such as Guido Molinari, Marcel Barbeau and Jack Shadbolt for inspiration. The new pieces are directly influenced by these artists and together form a cohesive collection that places Canadian art in a broader global dialogue.

Experience-oriented programming

To immerse guests even deeper into Vancouver's vibrant culinary spirit, Rosewood Hotel Georgia has introduced its bookable Master Class series, led by the hotel's talented food and beverage team. Guests are personally guided through Vancouver's Granville Market and hand-select locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, which they then use to create both a signature dish and a cocktail to match. The series is constantly changing based on which Pacific Northwest delicacies are being harvested at their best at the time, offering not only an immersive experience that delves beneath the surface, but also an educational lesson in sustainable and hyperlocal cooking.
