New Veterans Center coming to Youngstown, Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A new Veterans Center will be moving into the Valley with the help of some state funding.

The Board of Mahoning County Commissioners and the Veteran’s Service Commission announced July 2 that the state of Ohio dedicated $650,000 in capital funding for a new state-of-the-art Veterans Center.

The center will be housed in a 23,000-square-foot building on Belmont Avenue, adjacent to the Carl Nunziato Veterans Administrative Building.

The Western Reserve Port Authority is working with the Board of Mahoning County Commissioners to finalize the design and scope of work to renovate the building. Construction is expected to begin in a few months, and move-in for veterans is anticipated in the next calendar year.

Phase 1 plans for the building include a secure client intake center, conference rooms, office space for one-on-one support services, an event hall and a garage for medical shuttles.

The total project budget is estimated at $7 million and will allow for additional comprehensive services for the area’s veterans.
