Will Hurricane Beryl hit Texas? This is what the forecast says

As Hurricane Beryl moves through the Caribbean, devastated a number of islandsThe question that concerns Texans is how close the violent storm will come to the state.

The strong Category 4 hurricane swept through the Caribbean and claimed the lives of at least six people.

As a strong hurricane, it continues to move west and northwest, but at a decreasing speed.

Beryl's track will then take it to the Yucatan Peninsula and then into the Gulf of Mexico at the end of the week. Tropical rains are expected in South Texas through the end of the weekend and into next week.

The National Hurricane Center expects the storm to reach southern Texas – including Brownsville, Corpus Christi and Houston – by Monday morning. Gale-force winds are expected to begin Sunday morning.

According to the NHC, there are still uncertainties regarding the forecast track and intensity of Beryl, which is moving over the Gulf of Mexico toward southern Texas this weekend.

Both NHC and CBS News Texas meteorologists say it's too early to tell if the storm will bring tropical moisture to the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. As of Wednesday, there are no storm warnings or watches in place for Texas.

According to the NHC, Beryl was the earliest Category 5 hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin and only the second Category 5 storm recorded in July since 2005.
