Two tornadoes hit New Hampshire on July 3, 1997

Wednesday marks 27 years since two tornadoes touched down in New Hampshire on the same afternoon. They struck the state on July 3, 1997. The first, an EF1, spun up in Swanzey. Wednesday marks 27 years since two tornadoes touched down in New Hampshire on the same afternoon.

They hit the state on July 3, 1997.

The first tornado, an EF1, occurred in Swanzey.

Wind speeds of over 100 miles per hour caused significant damage to the Cheshire showground.

Twenty-five minutes later, an even stronger tornado formed in Greenfield, causing severe damage to a summer camp, a sawmill, and the town's recycling center.

This tornado was later classified as an EF2 with wind speeds over 217 km/h.
