HGTV has spoken! This is the most charming town in North Dakota

HGTV knows a thing or two about charm.

I enjoy watching their home renovation shows and other shows they have to offer for the DIY type of person I am.

Recently, an article from HGTV caught my eye: “The Most Charming Small Town in Every State.”

Your definition of charm would be the hidden gems in each state. The towns with quaint shops and restaurants, fascinating history, fun experiences and natural beauty.

That pretty much describes a town in North Dakota. I guess you've figured it out by now.

Before I tell you the obvious choice for North Dakota, let's first take a look at the most charming small town in our neighboring states.

South Dakota: Yankton! Located on the Missouri River and along the Missouri River Recreation Area. Numerous parks to explore and water sports for variety.

Minnesota: Park Rapids! The gateway to the headwaters of the Mississippi. Thousands of lakes in the area and a great vacation spot.

Montana: Whitefish! Considered one of the top 25 ski resorts in the world, it is also close to Glacier National Park.

And that brings us to the most charming town in North Dakota: Medora!

HGTV further said that Medora will help you discover your inner cowboy (or cowgirl). Medora has the charm of the Wild West, the Medora Musical, and of course, Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

I couldn't agree more. We have a lot of charming towns in North Dakota. Bismarck, Linton and Garrison to name a few, but Medora is the best of the best. It's hard to argue with that. Wait, I'm sure there's a Karen or two who do that.

While many of the cities listed immediately catch the casual observer's eye as popular summer rental destinations—Branson in the Ozarks, Missouri, or Lake Havasu in Arizona—you might be surprised when you delve deeper into the quality-of-life offerings beyond the beach and vacation homes. You'll likely take home a bit of a wide range of American culture: one of the last remaining 1950s-style drive-in theaters in the Midwest; a Florida town that began as a retirement home for Civil War veterans; an island with some of the country's best public schools and wealthiest cities in the middle of a lake between Seattle and Bellevue; and even a California city with a lot more to offer than Johnny Cash's prison blues.
