N. Andover, MA gun and explosives raid Tuesday – NBC Boston

Homemade explosive devices and a stash of more than 30 weapons were seized from a home in North Andover, Massachusetts, on Tuesday after a bomb exploded and damaged two vehicles, authorities said Wednesday.

Police shared an image showing assault rifles, pistols, high-capacity ammunition magazines and other weapons lying on a table after 64-year-old Daniel Medina was arrested at his home on Village Green Drive. The Massachusetts State Police bomb disposal unit was called to assist, the agency confirmed.

According to the Essex County District Attorney's Office and North Andover Police Department, authorities were called to the scene after the explosion. Medina allegedly attempted to cover up the damage caused by the explosion with spray paint.

Many of the weapons found by law enforcement, which included a SWAT team and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, did not have serial numbers, officials said, and Medina's gun license expired 24 years ago.

At a hearing in Lawrence District Court on Wednesday, Medina pleaded not guilty to five charges, including illegal possession of a firearm and criminal damage to property. He was held without bail pending a hearing on dangerous charges on at least July 12, officials said.

It is not immediately clear why investigators believe Medina possessed the weapons.

A large number of police officers were on site on Tuesday afternoon and Police Chief Charles Gray thanked the public for making the investigation possible.
