The Idaho Department of Transportation is offering trucking companies a new online service called the Driver Record Dashboard that provides information about driver record changes, such as commercial driver's license expiration dates and medical certifications.

“Employers of CDL drivers are prohibited from allowing drivers with drug and alcohol offenses to operate a commercial vehicle,” ITD spokeswoman Ellen Mattila told Transport Topics. “The service provides companies with the ability to review the records of the drivers they employ so they can ensure compliance with federal regulations.”

The state hired Boise-based web application developer Tyler Idaho to create the dashboard, which was launched in June.

Tyler Idaho charges carriers fees for using the dashboard, ranging from $10 per month to $95 per year. A person's driver's license can be monitored twice a month for 16 cents. There are also fees for automatic and manual driver's license data queries.

The dashboard is designed to help commercial fleets with Idaho-licensed drivers manage driver risk, monitor their status, and receive notifications of driver license changes. Status changes include notifications of a driver's new conviction or suspension, a change in license class, and expired/cancelled licenses.

Driver records are reviewed twice a month (beginning and middle of the month) for changes and notifications of changes are sent to carriers via email. Nightly monitoring is done for medical certificates and expiration dates.

Companies can create a schedule for one driver at a time or upload multiple employees at once. After creating a schedule, companies can purchase individual driver records or multiple records. If an issue is identified with a driver's status, the database stores a monthly tracking history to create a two-year compliance record with a complete view of driver history.
