Augusta man hospitalized after being shot by New York State Police

BARRYVILLE, NEW YORK (WABI) – An Augusta man is in a hospital after being shot by New York State Police Tuesday afternoon in Barryville, New York.

New York State Police say they were called to a suspicious person in a vehicle at a business.

Troopers say when they arrived, they found 63-year-old Paul Gosselin.

They say Gosselin claimed to have a gun and stated that he would shoot the troopers.

New York State Police tried to stop Gosselin when he fled to another business exited and then got back into his vehicle.

We’re told he then drove in the direction of a constable who was on foot.

A trooper on scene says they saw the vehicle accelerating towards the constable and shot at the vehicle hitting Gosselin one time.

Police say Gosselin is currently listed in stable condition at a New York hospital.
