With all of our beautiful waterfalls and fantastic hiking trails in Maine, It can be challenging to figure out which hikes are the most rewarding. While the exercise is rewarding in itself, seeing a beautiful waterfall makes the experience that much more so. If you're looking for a scenic hike to a waterfall in Maine, you'll enjoy the Peter's Brook and Three Bridges Loop.

The Peter's Brook and Three Bridges Loop Trailhead is located along Blue Hill Road and is nestled within Penny's Nature Preserve, part of the Blue Hill Heritage Trust Nature Preserve.
This is a moderate 1.5 mile loop trail that is quite popular year-round with hikers, snowshoers, and history buffs (due to the historic quarries here). Rustic wooden bridges span the creek in several places so you don't have to wade across.

The trail alternates between naturally worn dirt paths and wooden boardwalks to help you through some of the more rugged sections. Wherever it goes, it is a beautiful sight.

The scenery along this trail is very varied. Sometimes you are surrounded by trees and sometimes you have wide meadows, trees and open skies. You are welcome to bring your dog as long as he is on a leash.
If you are an amateur photographer, you will find numerous opportunities to take macro shots of various mushrooms, mosses, lichens, flowers and much more. There is a great diversity of flora and fauna.
We are almost at the waterfall and the sight of the moss-covered stones gives a sense of peace and mystery. It is lovely to stop for a moment, listen to the breeze and the birds and breathe in the scents of the forest.
The waterfall rushes through a crevice in the rocks, creating a soothing sound. The rushing water is beautiful to watch. We didn't even have to hike far to see it. It's a wonderful place for a picnic or to just sit and enjoy the waterfall.
The waterfall is at its most powerful during the spring snow melt, but is a delight any time of year.
