Pickup truck catches fire on Interstate 94 in Fargo – InForum

FARGO — A pickup truck caught fire on Interstate 94 in Fargo and was a total loss, according to a news release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol Wednesday, July 3.

Merreo Stewart, a 67-year-old Davenport man, was traveling westbound on Interstate 94 near the Red River Bridge around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday when he noticed smoke coming from his 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck, the news release said. Stewart pulled onto the shoulder of the road and he and Jane Randash, a 63-year-old Davenport woman who was a passenger in the pickup, were able to exit the truck unharmed.

The Fargo Fire Department put out the fire. While firefighters were putting out the fire, traffic was backed up into Minnesota, where an “accident with minor property damage” occurred. The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the accident.

The cause of the fire was not yet known on Wednesday, the press release said.

Our newsroom occasionally reports under the name “Staff.” The “Staff” name is often used when rewriting basic news briefs from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure that requires little or no reporting. Sometimes this name is used when a story has multiple authors or when the story consists of compiling previously reported news from various sources. When outside sources are used, this is noted in the story.
