Governor of Idaho announces celebration of USA's 250th birthday

Idaho joins more than 40 states and American territories in a nationwide effort to officially celebrate the United States' 250th birthday

BOISE, Idaho – Idaho Governor Brad Little has announced the launch of a new initiative to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.

The initiative is called “America250” and will work to advance community projects and events that honor this milestone and celebrate Idaho’s place in the country’s history.

“The United States of America is the greatest nation in the world and deserves to be celebrated. As we approach the 250th anniversary of American independence, Idaho is proud to recognize our nation's triumphant history and the Gem State's contributions,” said Governor Little. “I look forward to seeing how the America250 initiative inspires patriotism, encourages civic participation and celebrates freedom in Idaho.”

The Idaho State History Society (ISHS) will lead a special task force and direct several state offices in organizing events across the state.

According to a press release from the governor's office, the initiative will work with the America250 in Idaho Advisory Council, which was created by the passage of House Concurrent Resolution 31 in 2024, a bill designed to encourage statewide participation in patriotism.
