SWAT team responds to fugitive in Midvale

MIDVALE, Utah — Federal marshals have arrested a fugitive following an altercation at a Midvale home. No one was injured in the altercation.

On Wednesday, police cordoned off an area in Midvale while a SWAT team prepared to tackle a wanted fugitive in a home. Several nearby homes and businesses were evacuated.

At around 2 p.m., federal marshals arrived to arrest the fugitive. After several hours, a man came out of the house and was arrested at around 6:30 p.m.

The fugitive is wanted on a federal warrant and police have asked the public to avoid the area near 74 South Main Street during the standoff. Following the arrest, evacuated residents can now return home.

Sergeant Aymee Race of the Unified Police Department says they were called to the area to assist.

“We closed the roads,” Race said during the standoff. “We also conducted evacuations for people in the area. Due to some precautionary measures and the situations they are aware of, we decided to keep the community safe and support everyone as much as possible.”

Race said this is a serious situation, but thanks to the police presence on the scene, they feel they have the situation under control.

“We have one person in custody who was arrested in this incident,” Race said. “And no one was injured at the scene.”
