According to court documents, a police officer boarded the plane and spoke with a flight attendant who said the man had exposed himself and urinated during the flight. McCarthy was arrested and escorted off the plane, court documents say.

The officer used a passenger's cellphone to obtain a photo showing McCarthy urinating and exposing himself in the aisle of the plane, court documents say.

According to court documents, McCarthy told police he was flying from Portland, Oregon to Manchester with a stopover in Chicago and said he liked to drink “Jack and Cokes” and had several alcoholic drinks before boarding his plane in Oregon, more during his stopover in Chicago, and several more after boarding in Chicago.

American Airlines said the flight took off again shortly afterwards. A statement said, among other things: “We thank our team members for their professionalism and our customers for their understanding.”

McCarthy was released on bail and an attorney appointment hearing is scheduled for later this month.
