Another basketball graduate from South Carolina in the Olympic squad

South Carolina basketball legend A'ja Wilson will once again don the red, white and blue this summer when she represents the U.S. team at the Summer Olympics. As the best player in the world, it's no surprise that Wilson is on the national team, but it was announced Tuesday that Wilson won't be the only former Gamecock basketball star competing in the Olympics this summer.

Former South Carolina basketball forward Laeticia Amihere will play for Team Canada at the Summer Olympics in Paris, France. The Ontario native will have her second opportunity to play for Team Canada at the Olympics. While still in college, she had the honor of doing so at the 2020 Summer Olympics (which were held in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic).

The former first-round pick of the Atlanta Dream (2023 WNBA Draft) is an athletic and versatile player who loves to defend and grab rebounds, making her an ideal choice for a role on an Olympic team that has plenty of other scoring options. She is one of 12 players selected for the Canadian national team.

With her selection for the Olympics, Amihere becomes the youngest Olympian in Atlanta Dream history and also the first Olympian from Team Canada to play for the Dream.

The 2024 Summer Olympics will be held from July 23 to August 11. The WNBA will take a break during the Olympics so the league's stars can attend the games without missing league action. The WNBA season begins its All-Star break on July 18, and after the All-Star Game on July 20, there will be no WNBA games until August 15, giving Olympians like Amihere and Wilson a short break before their WNBA seasons resume.
