Families enjoy the Independence Day fireworks on July 4th at Hubbard Park in Meriden – NBC Connecticut

Some families began their Independence Day celebrations early, and many came to Meriden for the fireworks display.

“I love fireworks. I've been watching fireworks since I was a kid,” said Jonathan Harris of Meriden.

Whether child or adult, all eyes were turned to the sky to see the red glow of these rockets.

“Just the big bang. I just want to see what it's all about,” Harris said.

Meriden's Fourth of July celebrations draw thousands to Hubbard Park, many arriving early to secure a front-row seat for the fireworks.

“I see a lot of people here. It's a great environment for the little kids,” said Shil Patel of Southington.

An environment where Patel's family played a bit of cricket to pass the time before the show in the sky.

“We just play whenever we get the chance and today was just a perfect day to do it, so we're just playing a little bit with the family,” he said.

Others saw it as an opportunity to spend time with family they don't see often, like these stepbrothers.

“Bringing back family and memories,” said Geo, 11, of Milford.

For everyone in the park, the only thing that matters is coming together as a community.

“It’s a moment where we can enjoy something together, all together,” Harris said.
