Illinois awards $30,000 grants for statewide preservation | Real Estate

Landmarks Illinois, through its Preservation Heritage Fund and the Thomas E. Donnelley II Preservation Fund, has awarded $30,000 in grants to eight historic preservation projects in Illinois.

According to a statement from the nonprofit, the selected preservation projects are located across Illinois in Chicago, Oak Park, El Paso, Jacksonville, Pittsfield and Richmond. The funds will provide critical financial support to important historic sites in the state that are at risk of demolition and decay.

Chicago's historic Jackson Storage and Van Company Warehouse in the South Lawndale neighborhood has received a $5,000 grant from Landmarks Illinois. The money will be used to restore the warehouse and transform the space into a theater and community center featuring local businesses and arts organizations.

The Living Sanctuary of Faith Church of God in Christ in Oak Park has received a $5,000 grant to restore the masonry. Built in 1903, the church is part of the Frank Lloyd Wright-Prairie School of Architecture National Register and Local Historic Landmark District, according to Landmarks Illinois.

Oak Park & ​​River Forest Day Nursery also received a $3,500 grant to restore the windows of the landmark facility.
