Martin Ojeda scored the equaliser for Orlando City and then the Lions conceded an own goal by Toronto FC just before halftime, giving the visitors a 2-1 win on Wednesday.

Nickseon Gomis was the culprit in the own goal that proved decisive for Orlando (6-9-6, 24 points), which defended its one-goal lead in the second half and won two of its last three games.

Derrick Etienne Jr. put Toronto FC (7-12-3, 24 points) on the scoreboard in the fifth minute before they were overtaken and suffered their fifth consecutive loss.

Both regular goalkeepers returned from the Copa America. Pedro Gallese (Peru) did not have to save a single ball for Orlando in the win, while Sean Johnson (USMNT) saved one ball for Toronto.

Early in the game, Toronto's Federico Bernardeschi sent a left-footed cross low to the far post. Raoul Petretta was on the receiving end and directed the ball into the middle of the box where Etienne ran away. It was Etienne's second goal of the season.

Orlando equalized at 1-1 in the 27th minute when Facundo Torres' through ball down the left was touched by Ivan Angulo, whose short pass found Ojeda, who headed home his second goal of the season.

In the 38th and 39th minutes, Toronto had several blocked shots on goal, culminating in Lorenzo Insigne's right-footed shot that went just wide to the right.

Just after the 45th minute of the first half, Torres was on the right side of the box and attempted another short cross. The ball bounced off the outstretched foot of Gomis and went past Johnson.

Toronto came away empty-handed in the second half. Shortly after being substituted, DeAndre Kerr narrowly missed a right-footed shot in the 86th minute.

Kosi Thompson's 16-metre shot for Toronto in the second minute of stoppage time narrowly eluded Gallese, but bounced off the crossbar and went out of play.
