Chief physician of Texas Tech Health El Paso receives prestigious award

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) – Dr. I. Lee Swinney Jr., chief of surgery at Texas Tech Health El Paso, received the Raleigh Ross Scholar Award from the Texas Surgical Society for his outstanding skill and dedication to the field. This prestigious award is given to one resident each year.

Dr. Swinney Jr. received the award in April during the Texas Surgical Society's 212th Annual Meeting in Tyler, Texas.

In a statement following the announcement of his achievement, Dr. Swinney said:

“I am deeply honored to receive this scholarship and to be recognized by such a prestigious institution. This award is not only a personal achievement, but also a testament to the rigorous training and commitment that Texas Tech Health El Paso provides.”

A $12,000 grant will go to the Texas Tech El Paso Department of Surgery residency program. According to Texas Tech Health El Paso, the grant will be used for workshops, simulation labs and guest lectures to improve students' academic performance.
