Von Thun Farms in Washington, NJ is a great place to visit year-round! I finally got around to visiting the NJ Sunflower Trail. It was a beautiful sunny day with very little humidity, a perfect day to admire the lush beauty of summer.

The drive there was lovely and when we arrived we were greeted by a real farm with red barns, silos and everything. There were some farm animals in their play areas who were happy to be fed grain by small children. There were miles of apple orchards and some other berries and fruits. A tractor took us on a mile long drive around the farm.

In the red barn there was fresh fruit and vegetables, a sweet-smelling bakery, jams, syrups, sweets as well as lots of decorations, knick-knacks and handmade jewelry, all for visitors to buy.

Finally, we went down to the sunflower fields and began our maze experience. These beautiful, majestic flowers towered over me with a kindness that only a sunflower can radiate. I felt like they were as curious about me as I was about them.

Finally, I was in the magic garden! Here and there, decorative farm equipment, little benches to sit and enjoy. You can pick any sunflower you want, but I wasn't allowed to. I had the feeling that they belonged exactly where they were, and should be admired in all their glory.

Von Thun offers special events all year round, in every season. The beautiful ride and the fun farm are worth the trip.
