Former NFL player arrested after missing son found safe in Indiana

LOGANSPORT, Indiana — A former NFL player has been arrested after his 14-year-old son, who was reported missing over two weeks ago, was found safe in their home in Indiana, police say.

Indiana State Police say Bryson Muir “appeared safe and well” after he was found early Wednesday morning at the Logansport home of his parents, Daniel and Kristen Muir. Bryson was placed in the care of the Cass County Department of Child Services. His parents were taken into custody without incident, police say.

Daniel Muir, 40, who played college football at Kent State and for multiple teams in the NFL, has been charged with a felony count of obstruction of justice and a misdemeanor count of domestic battery. Kristen Muir, 38, is charged with a felony count of obstruction of justice. Both are being held in the Cass County Jail.

Bryson Muir was found at about 6 a.m. when a SWAT unit arrived at the family’s home with a search warrant, police say. He had last been seen just before 8 a.m. on June 16 leaving a family member’s residence in Cleveland with Kristen Muir, according to a news release from police.

Indiana police say the vehicle driven by his mother was pulled over later that day by the Garfield Heights Police Department. Bryson was not in the vehicle, police say.

A Silver Alert was issued on Friday, June 28, after Daniel Muir and his wife reportedly backed out of an agreement to meet with police, saying they would bring along Bryson.

The Cass County Department of Child Services called state police on June 18 to investigate reports that Bryson was a victim of domestic battery, police say. Cheryl Wright, a Cleveland-area resident and the mother of Kristin Muir, tells WTHR Channel 13 that she contacted police because she saw Bryson with a black eye, a fat lip and a swollen face. She says her grandson accused Daniel Muir of causing the injuries.

Daniel Muir, 40, is a former defensive tackle in the NFL who played seven seasons, from 2007 to 2013, with the Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets and the then-Oakland Raiders.
