Gumskab: Maine Hardcore Unit continues their furious series with “Foxhole” (PREMIERE) | Features

Gumskab have helped carry the torch of Maine's hardcore scene since their debut last year. Their demo and subsequent singles and live performances have helped cement their reputation as one of the Pine Tree State's loudest and proudest bands in recent memory.

With mosh parts alongside unbridled, fast and aggressive guitar riffs, Gumskab create a soundtrack for the heavily caffeinated and attention-deprived hardcore fans in any audience. Their most recent example was the September release of “Avarice,” which also featured participation from Maine's Infernal Diatribe. If 2023 was their warm-up, 2024 is the year Gumskab kicks things up a notch (or three).

To set the stage for the year, Gumskab will release her new EP, Cut your teethon Maine-based Cheap Life Records, founded by Chris Linkovich of Cruel Hand and Terror. Although no release date has been set, the band previews the EP with “Foxhole,” a rousing track featuring guest vocals from Victor Nguyen of Clock Out.

Gumskab will release the song on digital streaming platforms tomorrow (March 8), but they're giving No Echo readers a sneak peek with this “Foxhole” visualizer:

Gumskab singer Nik said of the background of the piece: “'Foxhole' is a poem in utter disrepair. The themes are religious/spiritual, dark, dogmatic and absolutely ignorant. It is meant metaphorically, I leave it up to interpretation.

“The breakdown in 'Foxhole' was intentionally written with a big 'fuck you'. I'm glad we got Vic to join in and capture that feeling. Big shout out to Clock Out, I can't wait to rock out with them soon.”

The Skab boys will be on tour this month with their friends from Slighted, Clock Out, Infernal Diatribe and Hard Feelings, playing some weekend shows in Philly, Connecticut and Maine.

If you're in the area, be sure to stop by and find out what Northeast Hardcore really has to offer this year.
