Manoa Falls Trail to close for maintenance July 8-12

HONOLULU — The Department of Land and Natural Resources announced the closure of Manoa Falls Trail from July 8 to 12 for trail maintenance and improvements.

The trail will reopen July 13.

During the closure period, the Nā Ala Hele Trail and Access Program at the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife will widen the trail corridor, conduct trail hardening, remove invasive species, install signs and mitigate water runoff to address soil erosion and slippery conditions.

Most of the work will occur on the upper sections of the trail, but some work will also take place on lower trail segments.

Annually, the Manoa Falls Trail hosts 200,000 visitors, causing significant wear and tear. Foot traffic and wet conditions have created uneven terrain, making the trail hazardous, according to DLNR.

DLNR will complete the work with the help of Kupu, a nonprofit that specializes in youth training and work experiences. DLNR staff will work alongside Kupu’s Hawaii Youth Conservation Corps to complete the trail maintenance and improvements.
