Great Falls Fire Rescue reminds residents about fireworks | Great Falls News

GREAT FALLS, Mont. Great Falls is one of the last communities in Montana that allows the private discharge of fireworks within city limits, according to Mike McIntosh, assistant chief of the prevention division for Great Falls Fire Rescue.

And since the discharge of fireworks is again permitted within city limits, the GFFR is issuing some safety tips for people who discharge fireworks in the city.

  • No setting off of fireworks on public property, including streets
  • No depositing of fireworks on public land
  • Violations can be punished with a fine of up to $1,000
  • Fireworks are permitted on July 2, 3 and 4 from 8 a.m. to midnight.
  • Report illegal fireworks at 406-727-7688 X5

McIntosh says the Fourth of July is always the busiest time for firefighters.

“If we have a big fire that we have to send our teams to, we don't have enough resources to protect the city with all the other fires that are happening. So we encourage people who are out on the Fourth of July to be careful, be smart, bring buckets of water that they can put out their fireworks in. Please don't act like a bunch of hillbillies and run around having fireworks fights and stuff like that because that could be bad for you and the community,” McIntosh said.

If you don't have your own fireworks, there are a few different displays tonight; the first is after the Voyagers game and the second is the community fireworks display at West Bank Park.
