Looking for an exciting thing to do this 4th of July weekend?

Whether or not you have plans already, you've probably heard about the fireworks spectacular at Knight's Action Park on Red, White and Blue Holiday at 10:30 p.m. or “Rock the Dock,” Springfield's largest fireworks display right down at the Lake Springfield Marina on July 5th.

While fireworks and music festivals rock the night away, here are a few alternatives for how you can spend this holiday weekend.

Edwards Place Servant Tour

What: What was it like to work for the Edwards family in the 1800s? The Springfield Art Association answers that question with a special tour to show guests what a workday was like at historic Edwards Place. Meet several actors playing people who worked for the Edwards family as they prepare for a special event. This tour goes up to the second floor and the newly restored attic, meaning these areas are only accessible by stairs for some tour visitors.

When: 1pm Saturday

Where: Edwards Place at 700 N 4th St.

Mr. Blue Sky: A tribute to the Electric Lights Orchestra

What: This night at Danenberger Family Vineyards is made for classic rock and flashing lights. NTL Productions has partnered with the beautiful vineyard and bar to present a tribute night to the Electric Lights Orchestra. With a focus on the band's hits from the '70s, '80s and their latest records, Mr. Blue Sky will play the nostalgia you crave.

When: 8pm Saturday

Where: Daneberger Family Vineyards, 12341 Irish Road, New Berlin

Fundraising for Alzheimer's paintings

What: Join artist Ashley Blake as you paint for a good cause with every brush stroke. This one-day event is for creative people of all experience levels who want to express themselves through low-stress guided painting. Each painter is given a large canvas and guided step-by-step through the painting process by Blake, who organized the event. Proceeds from the painting night go to the Alzheimer's Association, a nonprofit organization that advances research to overcome Alzheimer's and all other dementias.

When: Friday 7pm to 9pm

Where: Trustwell Living of Springfield, 2451 West White Oaks Drive

More:Tickets for the event are $35 and benefit from charity; free wine will be distributed to adults at the painting party. Tickets can be purchased on the Paint with Ashley Blake Facebook page.

Event in the decade 2000

What: If you're up for a huge party, this might be just the thing for you. There are three DJs, selfie booths with professional photographers on site, open mic, and several competitions to enter. Test your cool in the Best Dressed Competition, which offers cash prizes and bragging rights.

When: Admission is on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Where: The Crown Plaza, 3000 S. Dirksen Parkway, Springfield

More: Tickets are $68 in advance and $85 at the door. A general admission ticket includes a free alcoholic beverage, a printed photo and souvenir holder, a glow stick, access to photo booths and souvenirs.

Fire & Ice social

What: Meet new friends and sweat off the stress of an exciting week by slowing down and relaxing in the sauna with new friends. Hosted by Peace, Love and Sweat spa therapy, this hour-long session takes guests to the infrared sauna for half an hour to relax… and then plunge into the cold plunge pool to wake up feeling alive. While you relax in the sauna, spa shots and a variety of refreshments are provided for a thoroughly peaceful and perhaps eventful afternoon.

When: Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: 3450 Liberty Drive, Springfield.

More: There are 3 sessions at 11:00 am, 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm. Admission per session is $30 per person. Tickets can be purchased online at the Peace, Love and Sweat website. For more information, call 217-670-2452.
