Pennsylvania man arrested in connection with Allegany County shooting

State police were called to Smith Hollow Road in the town of Wellsville around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday after a report that someone had been shot at a party.

WELLSVILLE, NY – A Pennsylvania man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred Wednesday in Allegany County.

New York State Police were called to Smith Hollow Road in the town of Wellsville around 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday after a report that someone had been shot at a party.

After an investigation, state police said there had been an argument between 54-year-old Gregory S. Miller of Penndel, Pennsylvania, and the 48-year-old man who was shot.

“Miller then went to his vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, and returned with a Springfield Armory .45 ACP. Miller then fired the weapon several times at the victim, striking him once in the lower left leg,” state police said.

Other party guests held Miller and waited for the police to arrive.

The victim was taken to Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and then transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Miller is charged with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment, three counts of illegal possession of a weapon and illegal use of a weapon. He was taken to the Allegany County Jail.
