Windsor proves that quiet luxury living is possible – even in Florida

There are many adjectives you can use to describe Florida, some more friendly than others, but I'm sure the last thing that comes to mind when you think of this divided state is “quiet.” Sure, the bright lights of Miami are dazzling, but where do you go among the flashy cars, glittering skyscrapers, financial bros and cryptocrats when you just need some peace and quiet in the Sunshine State?

Believe it or not, the answer lies within state borders—just a 90-minute drive from Palm Beach. The coastal community of Windsor is located on 1,000 acres of verdant land in Florida's Vero Beach, protected and secluded on the barrier island on the Atlantic coast.

When the village was founded in 1989 by Canadian businessman W. Galen Weston and his wife, philanthropist Hilary Weston, the exact name may not have been widely known, but little did they know that Windsor would one day become the epitome of quiet luxury.

With the goal of creating a Caribbean-style resort in the United States, Windsor is an idyllic oasis sheltered from the usual Florida vices. Here, residents are driven in golf carts through palm-lined streets to the beach club, the Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course or the world-class polo field where King Charles is said to have played.

Windsor is made up of 350 palatial homes, each immaculately maintained and immaculate, with a perfect balance of casual and elegant. Built in what is known as the “Anglo-Caribbean” style; think Bermuda shutters, gabled roofs and wraparound verandas.

Deciding between all the properties in Windsor is difficult, but the recently for sale 3335 Abercrombie Way should make it a little easier – if you have $11.5 million to spare. The 19,000-square-foot property is one of the last homes designed by famed modernist architect Hugh Newell Jacobsen. Having served famous clients such as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Meryl Streep, it's no surprise that we were charmed by this extraordinary residence.
